Let me begin by saying that if you are eating a cupcake from Sprinkles, you are already winning. Candace Nelson, the owner of Sprinkles, has done an amazing job of setting Sprinkles apart from the competition by perfecting the art of the frosting in both consistency and flavor. Her frostings are smoothed on in with a trademark swirl and topped with their iconic modern dot to finish it off.
You may have seen Candance appear as a judge on both Cupcake Wars and Sugar Rush, both of which are all the better for having her critiques given her wild success with the Sprinkles Cupcakes line. Having watched Candance as a judge on two shows I have proudly seen every episode of, I was hesitant to share my opinions on her amazing cupcakes. However, in hopes of helping your next visit to Sprinkles feel a little less overwhelming, I am doing all the dirty work and eating my way through every flavor of cupcake from Sprinkles to bring you a fully informed list of Best to *Least Best Sprinkles cupcake! Stay tuned for periodic updates as I try every flavor and share what I learn.
*I refuse to say Best to Worst since you could choose any flavor here and be satisfied. Really.
- Red velvet: My current all time favorite Sprinkles cupcake! The cake dons a gorgeous red color like any red velvet cake should, but it won’t stain your hands and teeth. The cream cheese frosting is smooth and rich, perfectly complimenting the light chocolate flavor of the cupcake base. A must try!
- Carrot: For those of you who enjoy carrot cake, you will absolutely adore this flavor. While the cream cheese frosting is a bit dominant here, the texture of the cake base is true to a good old-fashioned carrot cake, with bits of fresh carrot throughout.
- Salty Caramel: I do not have a picture of this cupcake since it was devoured immediately (whoops). Even with a huge sweet tooth, this cupcake was a bit on the sweet side for me. The buttery, caramel frosting leaned a bit to the sickly sweet side for me even with the salt crystals on top.
- Chocolate Chip Cookie: This flavor is seasonal sadly, but has made a comeback in the past, meaning it may appear again! The base of the cupcake is an actual chocolate chip cookie and the frosting is topped with cookie crumbles, making this cupcake the perfect dessert for anyone who loves the taste of a classic chocolate chip cookie.
- Sprinkle: The OG birthday cupcake topped with enough sprinkles and color to make anyone smile whether it’s your birthday or not. The vanilla buttercream frosting and classic vanilla cake is always a classic combination. Plus, with the added crunch from the round, rainbow nonpareils, this cupcake does not disappoint.
- Black and White: Chocolate lovers beware. This cupcake is not made with your typical chocolate cake base. The base is actually a Belgian dark chocolate, meaning it is a little less sweet than what you may be expecting. However, if you are willing to keep an open mind, the chocolate vanilla combo with the flaky chocolate topping is actually quite delicious.
My list is based on the Sprinkles location in Disney Springs in Orlando, FL, but you can find Sprinkles all over the US from California all the way to DC. Click here to check out all of the available locations on their website.
